The current level of government support for the veterinary industry falls short of what is necessary to achieve effective import substitution. An estimated 10 to 20 billion rubles are required to advance production, enhance research and development, and broaden the range of veterinary drugs available. This insight was shared by Timur Chibilyaev, the executive director of the National Veterinary Association, during the 26th International Exhibition of Equipment, Raw Materials, and Technologies for Pharmaceutical Production, Pharmtech & Ingredients.
“Imports are gradually being replaced by domestic and Belarusian manufacturers. The share of domestic manufacturers has grown from 42 to 46%. But the industry requires quite serious development, and requires investments of about 20 billion rubles,” the expert noted.
The federal project “Veterinary drugs” aims to support the veterinary production industry through subsidies for universities, research institutes, and manufacturers, along with preferential investment lending. The Ministry of Agriculture plans to allocate 5.13 billion rubles until 2027.
“We have serious expectations for this federal project. It sets the task of providing 61% of the market with domestically produced vaccines and 70% with veterinary drugs by 2030. Our industry has high but unrealized potential; it lacks state assistance,” added Timur Chibilyaev.
