The Russian biopharmaceutical company Pharmasyntez will begin producing a transdermal gel for hormone replacement therapy during menopause, as the manufacturer’s press service informed GxP News.

The active ingredient of the gel, synthetic 17 beta estradiol, is chemically and biologically identical to endogenous human estradiol. Applying a drug to the skin can help minimize fluctuations in estradiol levels in plasma.

Menopause can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life due to a range of symptoms, including fatigue, hot flashes, and night sweats. Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), also known as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), is effective in reducing the symptoms of menopausal syndrome, regardless of whether the menopause is naturally occurring or surgically induced.

The drug will be produced at the Pharmasyntez-Tyumen plant. According to the company, it is the only plant of its kind in Russia and the largest in Europe for producing hormonal drugs.

Kursor IT company has released a ranking of pharmaceutical companies by the number of registration certificates for medicines in 2024-2025. Pharmasyntez ranks sixth on the list, with 136 registration certificates.
