The Innovative Enterprise NOVA in Aleksin, Tula region, has started mass production of components for diabetes self-monitoring devices. The project’s total investment reached 268 million rubles, with 179 million rubles supplied by the Industrial Development Fund (IDF) as a preferential loan under the Component Parts program, according to the IDF press service.

The new company will manufacture up to 658,000 sets of components for glucose monitoring systems and up to 4.8 million sets of test strip components each year. Orders for the products will mainly come from Irkutsk-based MedTechservice company, which manufactures blood sugar monitoring systems.

Until now, Russian manufacturers have been entirely reliant on importing similar plastic and silicone components from Korea, Thailand, and China. The new production facility will fully eliminate imports in this segment.

The product range includes plastic and silicone body and filling components for glucose meters, parts of scarifiers and plastic elements of sealed tubes with lids for test strips.
The produced components are intended for invasive glucose monitoring systems that require regular measurements—ranging from 2 to 12 times daily—by analyzing a drop of capillary blood. In these systems, blood is applied to a test strip, which is subsequently inserted into a glucose meter for analysis.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian government will allocate 20 billion rubles to recapitalize the Industrial Development Fund, with biopharmaceutical, chemical, and medical industries designated as priority sectors.
