In 9 months of 2025, the Federal Center for Animal Health Protection has developed five test systems for diagnosing the most common diseases of pets and farm animals. This was reported by the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor, the agency overseeing the institute.

Among the latest developments are test systems for detecting RNA viruses of avian influenza subtype H5, the genome of the classical swine fever virus (CSFV), fragments of the genome of the canine parvovirus enteritis agent, calicivirus, and the pathogen of feline infectious rhinotracheitis.

“The creation of such diagnostic tools is especially relevant given that outbreaks of avian influenza and CSFV continue to be recorded in many countries, and infectious diseases of small domestic animals remain widespread,” the statement says.  It also notes that the institute’s developments are in demand among research centers and veterinary clinics across the country, as they help to “reduce laboratory research times, improve diagnostic accuracy, and increase the effectiveness of preventive and epizootic measures.”

In 2024, the share of Russian-made veterinary vaccines on the domestic market reached a record 67%, which is 15 percentage points higher than in 2023.  GxP News investigated how Russia eliminated the shortage of vaccines for the most common and economically significant infectious diseases of animals.
