Rosselkhoznadzor has summarized the preliminary results of the work of its subordinate All-Russian Research Institute of Animal Health for 2025. According to data from mid-December, scientists at the institute registered 13 new vaccines for fish, birds, pets, and farm animals.

“Among the most significant developments is the world’s first H5N1 avian influenza vaccine for fur-bearing animals, cats, and dogs, the need for which was driven by the wide spread of H5N1 among mammals in many countries,” noted the agency. Furthermore, a vaccine against canine distemper and parvoviral enteritis for puppies has appeared in the institute’s portfolio for the first time.

Key developments from the previous year featured the historic registration of Russia’s first domestic salmonid fish vaccine. The portfolio for rabbits was enhanced with vaccines against myxomatosis and viral hemorrhagic disease. Other significant releases included drugs for cattle (against rotavirus, coronavirus, and escherichiosis), vaccines for birds (against H9N2 flu and Gumboro disease), and a combined erysipelas-parvovirus vaccine for swine.

“In 2025, scientists at the Research Institute received about 70 patents for inventions, including for vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease serotypes O, SAT-1, SAT-2, SAT-3, Asia-1, which are relevant for Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. These developments can serve as an additional element of protection for Russia’s biosecurity,” emphasized the press service of Rosselkhoznadzor.
