In 2025, 1.2 million packages of dietary supplements for the prevention of anemia were sold in Russia, which is 54% higher than in 2024, according to the Center for Advanced Technology Development (TsRPT, operator of the “Chestny ZNAK” marking system). In monetary terms, sales reached 1.1 billion rubles (the TsRPT does not provide the dynamics). Sales of anemia medications increased by 4% over the year, reaching 23.9 million packages, reports Kommersant.

At the same time, according to RNC Pharma, last year 4.5 million packages of iron-containing dietary supplements worth 3.7 billion rubles were sold in pharmacy and FMCG retail, as well as through marketplaces. DSM Group recorded a 22.9% increase in sales value, reaching 4 billion rubles, although in volume terms there was a decrease of 1.5% to 40.3 million packages. The analysts’ estimates are based on different approaches to defining dietary supplements. For example, DSM Group includes hematogen in the category, which other players may not take into account. The TsRPT clarified that they only considered dietary supplements whose action is aimed at increasing iron levels.

Anemia is a condition in which the blood has a reduced number of red blood cells or hemoglobin, which are responsible for transporting oxygen to tissues. The World Health Organization states that this problem affects 30% of women aged 15 to 49, 37% of pregnant women, and 40% of children aged six months to five years. Patients diagnosed with iron deficiency are prescribed specialized therapy with iron medications.

Dietary supplements are not used in such cases, and the more pronounced dynamics of their sales are rather associated with aggressive marketing, experts note. Furthermore, dietary supplements, which unlike medications are sold without a prescription, have more distribution channels.
