US President Donald Trump has unveiled his TrumpRx platform at the White House, aimed at helping Americans purchase prescription drugs at lower prices, according to ABC News.
The website features 40 drugs for patients who pay for them out-of-pocket, not through insurance. “Now dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at significant discounts,” Trump stated. He emphasized that the price reductions were made possible by applying a Most Favored Nation policy, guaranteeing that the United States does not pay more than other countries.
The site does not sell drugs directly: they can be purchased at 70,000 pharmacies participating in the project using coupons posted on the platform, or directly on manufacturers’ websites.
“You are going to save a fortune,” Trump declared at the platform’s launch. However, experts say the savings are unclear and may only benefit some patients. “The TrumpRx formulary is very limited,” said Rena Conti, an associate professor at the Boston University School of Business. “This means it is worth checking your insurance and consulting with your doctor or pharmacist before using this service.”
The largest player on TrumpRx so far — with a significant expansion of the range announced for the future — is Pfizer, with over 30 of its drugs featured on the site. Regarding categories, one of the main ones is fertility treatments, including Gonal-f, Cetrotide, and Ovitrelle, with discounts ranging from 67% to 93%. The popular weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy are also featured on the platform.
