Tyumen authorities plan to launch the delivery of medicines and biological materials to remote villages in the region using drones, Deputy Governor of the Tyumen Region Stanislav Loginov told the publication Ura.ru.

“We have been thinking about this for a long time, and are currently exploring what practices and opportunities exist,” he said. According to the official, the use of drones will make it possible to transfer samples for research from hard-to-reach areas to central laboratories many times faster and to promptly deliver necessary medicines.

The regional government believes that aerial logistics will not only help save lives in emergency situations but also significantly reduce government expenses and labor costs associated with ground transportation.

To launch the project, the region needs to conduct large-scale testing of the system in real-world conditions. If the trials are successful, Tyumen could become the first region to officially integrate courier drones into the daily practice of public healthcare. According to the deputy governor, there is currently an active search for optimal technological solutions capable of operating in the Siberian climate.

Starting in 2026, the use of drones for delivering medicines, biological materials, and other medical cargo is permitted, funded by compulsory medical insurance (OMS).
