Johnson & Johnson’s amivantamab vaccine completely destroyed tumours in some patients, with significant changes seen within weeks, The Guardian reported, citing results from a clinical trial involving 102 head and neck cancer patients from 11 countries.
The trial included patients whose cancer had already metastasised or recurred, and for whom standard treatments had stopped working, the report noted.
According to the trial results, the drug completely dissolved tumours in 15 out of 102 patients, while a further 28 saw significant tumour shrinkage.
Most side effects of the once‑every‑three‑weeks treatment were mild to moderate, and fewer than one in ten patients had to discontinue treatment.
According to the researchers, the injection showed similar results in lung cancer patients.
In 2024, the US Food and Drug Administration granted BioAtla accelerated approval for a drug containing ozuriftamab vedotin for a specific type of head and neck cancer.
