Moscow’s production of drugs and medical materials rose 8.8% in 2025, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in his blog. Output of cardiovascular drugs increased 79.8%, respiratory medicines grew 87.2%, and vaccines and serums rose 1.5‑fold, he said. More than 300 specialised enterprises operate in the capital, and many of their developments have no analogues in Russia or globally.

The city is also ramping up production of multiple sclerosis drugs. According to Anatoly Garbuzov, head of the Department of Investment and Industrial Policy, Biocad is manufacturing the first domestic original drugs against this disease at the Technopolis Moscow special economic zone.

The drug is on the list of vital and essential medicines and is fully produced in Russia. A guaranteed sales contract has been in place since 2017, making it possible to provide therapy not only to Muscovites but also to residents of other regions.

Moscow enterprises are also creating high‑tech medical devices. SEZ residents have developed an artificial kidney machine, the first Russian membrane oxygenator (which replaces lung function), and the first artificial liver made from a patient’s own cells. Some of these devices have already received registration certificates and are preparing for serial production.

The capital also produces neural implants for vision and hearing restoration, hand prostheses with optical sensors, and vascular implants. Motorika, for example, developed the world’s first Omni Hand prosthesis, has helped more than 8,000 people from 17 countries, and has become one of the top 10 global manufacturers. The Sensor‑Tech laboratory is creating Russia’s first neural implants, which are undergoing preclinical trials.

Earlier, Garbuzov said that Moscow’s pharmaceutical enterprises increased vaccine and serum production by 1.5 times in 2025 compared with 2024. Total output of drugs and materials for medical and veterinary use rose 10.2%.
