The Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FMBA) has said the indications for the Onkorna vaccine could be expanded.

Russia’s mRNA vaccine Onkorna for colorectal cancer could be administered at an earlier stage of treatment, said Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical‑Biological Agency (FMBA).

“If the tumour has confirmed microsatellite instability, Onkorna could be given at earlier stages as well,” she clarified.

The drug is currently indicated for adults with metastatic colorectal cancer who have received two or more lines of systemic anticancer therapy. It is used in combination with checkpoint inhibitors if the patient has a high tumour mutational burden.

The Russian Health Ministry approved the FMBA-developed vaccine for this indication in April 2026. To date, the agency’s portfolio includes two personalised cancer vaccines for this type of cancer.
