The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation declared one hundred percent self-sufficiency of the country in veterinary vaccines against extremely dangerous and quarantine diseases. Institutions subordinate to the Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) are developing vaccines and introducing advanced methods for the diagnosis and prevention of plant and animal diseases, contributing to the country’s import independence, according to Dmitry Patrushev, Russia’s Minister of Agriculture.

He stated that the Russian agricultural industry is in a more advantageous position than its counterparts in many other countries of the world. Patrushev mentioned the growing foci of African swine fever and avian influenza as an example.

“There are already thousands of foci. I won’t say, of course, that the situation in Russia is perfect: there are a lot of problems to be solved. Nevertheless, if we compare the data, we see that our development has the right direction,” the official said during the summary meeting of the Rosselkhoznadzor board.

The minister added that in 2022, the state assigned 3.5 billion rubles to support agricultural manufacturers.

Nevertheless, amid anti-Russian sanctions, veterinary manufacturers proposed to create a list of vital veterinary medicines at risk of shortage, similar to the list of crucial medicines for humans. It is allowed to import batches of such veterinary medicines in foreign packaging.
