According to the results of Q1-Q3 2021, the volume of drug production in Russia reached 432.7 billion rubles, which is 20% more than last year’s figures.

According to RNC Pharma, the upward trend remains high for the third year in a row.  In natural units, shipments decreased by 16% last year, with a total of 2.98 billion packages produced.

The increase in rubles at the end of September 2021 was 0.3%. This is the second lowest monthly result for this year. In total, domestic manufacturers have released medicines worth 48 billion rubles this month. Analysts attributed the modest results to the effect of a high comparison base of 2020: that year, September was a peak in production, which was associated with an increase in the COVID-19 incidence rate. In addition, the product range has undergone significant changes over the year: in particular, this year domestic pharmaceutical companies have shifted to the production of more expensive drugs.

The results of Q1-Q3 2021 show that the trends in prescription and over-the-counter drugs production remain uneven. Calculations in packages show the change in the group of over-the-counter drugs of -21.4%, whereas the result in the prescription category is about half as bad (-9.4%).

Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed the government to purchase expensive medicines that are necessary for inpatient treatment of patients with coronavirus infection and deliver these drugs to the regions.

It was previously reported that in Russia, the demand for coronavirus medicines has increased by 51%. The ten medicines that are most in demand during the coronavirus pandemic were also listed.
