A vaccine against allergy to cats has completed its preclinical trials and is ready for clinical trials. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of Sechenov University.

As previously reported, the team of Sechenov University, together with the Medical University of Vienna, is developing a vaccine against cat allergies.

“Two teams worked on the creation of the drug, in Moscow and in Vienna. It was a difficult and long job, but it was worth it. The next stage is toxicological and clinical trials, which we plan to start in 2023–2024, and the subsequent registration of the vaccine,”  said Aleksandr Karaulov, the manager of the project, Head of Clinical Immunology and Allergology at Sechenov University, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The vaccine has no analogues in the world. According to the press service, the drug is safe and effective against all cat allergens.

The university noted that at least 30% of the adult population of the whole world are allergic to cats. This type of allergy not only affects quality of life, but is also a life-threatening disease.
