Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko commented on the registration of the world’s first drug capable of defeating ankylosing spondylitis, developed by the Russian compamy Biocad together with scientists from the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and the Shemyakin-Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry. He emphasized that participants in clinical trials noted the high effectiveness of the drug.

“Those patients who have received this therapy today as part of clinical trials note the high effectiveness of the drug. <…> Since Russia was the first to create and register this drug, I think that this will become a reason for medical tourism from other countries to receive this therapy,” he said.

Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic disease in which antibodies mistake the cartilage tissue and joints of the body for foreign bodies. Experience with the use of the drug from Biocad, whose INN is seniprutug, shows a significant decrease in inflammation in the spine, an increase in range of motion, and a decrease in back pain. “The developed drug makes it possible to destroy pathological T-lymphocytes that attack the body’s own cells,” the Russian Ministry of Health explained earlier.
